Chuckey-Doak 2, Unicoi County 0

The Chuckey-Doak soccer team earned a 2-0 road victory at Unicoi County on Tuesday.

The Lady Black Knights scored in the first half off a beautiful cross from freshman Caitlin Larson to an equally beautiful volley to the back post from junior Lindsey Rojas.

In the 60th minute the Lady Blue Devils were awarded a penalty kick from a Chuckey-Doak foul inside the 18 yard box, but Lady Black Knight senior goal keeper Cora Merrill guessed correctly on the shot and made the diving save to preserve the lead.

Hailey Williamson added an insurance goal for Chuckey-Doak in the 62nd minute, hitting a high lob over the Lady Blue Devil keeper and into the net to end the night scoring.

The Lady Black Knights were led defensively by Cora Merrill with 13 saves in goal and the strong play from junior Kennah Marshall and freshman Serenity Roper. Senior Addy Bradley controlled the midfield with help from freshman Khloe Knight.

The Lady Black Knights improve to 4-5-2 overall are off until Tuesday when they travel to Pigeon Forge for a big district match.

University High 3, Greeneville 2

The Greeneville soccer team answered University High twice on Thursday night, but the Lady Buccaneers found the decisive shot with two minutes left to capture a 3-2 win in Johnson City.

Both teams scored two goals in the first half. University High got a goal from Charlotte Williams in the 10th minutes, and Ava Williams scored on a corner kick in the 25th minute.

For Greeneville Peyton Vaught scored on a penalty kick in the 12th minute, and Kinsley Spradlen scored in the 35th minute on an assist from Matea Gray.

Becca Ford came up with the decisive goal in the 78th minute to give University High the win.

VOLLEYBALL

Sullivan East 3, Greeneville 2

The Greeneville volleyball team fell to Sullivan East on Thursday 3-2, 18-25, 25-22, 25-14, 20-25, 15-10.

Chuckey-Doak 3, Unicoi County 0

The Chuckey-Doak volleyball team picked up 3-0 sweep over Unicoi County on Thursday night, 25-12, 25-20, 25-23. With the win Chuckey-Doak moves into first place in District 1-AA.

West Greene 3, Hampton 1

The West Greene volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over Hampton on Thursday to stay unbeaten in District 1-A play.
