First Horizon Spotlight Game of the Week
South Greene 52, North Greene 20
South Greene shook off a slow start and put up 46 unanswered points to pull away with a 52-20 win over North Greene on Thursday night’s Homecoming in Camp Creek.
“We came out a little flat with it being Homecoming this week and a lot of distractions this week. It’s what you expect. But they turned it around in the second quarter and were able to get Wyatt the ball quite a few times and the offensive line I can’t brag about them enough. They open up the holes and make it easy for him,” Rebels Head Coach Tony Schroeck said.
Wyatt Milhorn was dominant as ever and finished with 5 rushes for 117 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. He also took a kick return to the end zone for a fourth touchdown. “All I can say is he’s our workhorse. He carries the load for us and magical things happen when he gets the ball,” Coach Schroeck stated.
Quarterback Sammy Jones was an efficient 5-for-6 with 89 passing yards and a touchdown.
North Greene jumped ahead first with a 31-yard rushing touchdown from Deshawn McCraw on a double reverse. The Huskies went up 8-0 with 1:38 left in the first. The Rebels responded exactly a minute later with a 60-yard touchdown from Wyatt Milhorn to cut South Greene’s deficit to 8-6 with 38 ticks to go in the first. The Huskies ended the first ahead 8-6.
Deshawn McCraw quickly extended North Greene’s lead with a 71-yard receiving touchdown on the first play of the next drive. The lead was then set at 14-6 with 7:49 in the second.
From there on out it was all South Greene. The Rebels scored 46-straight to run away with the game. Milhorn took the following kickoff return back home for a touchdown and tied it at 14-14 with the two-point conversion. The Rebels ran an onside kick and Camden Marshall jumped on top to recover it. Milhorn ran in from 30 yards out to give South Greene a permanent lead at 20-14 with 4:40 left in the half. Wyatt Crosby picked off a pass in the air and ran it 56 yards to the end zone for a pick six with 1:55 left. Sammy Jones split the uprights with the PAT and made it 27-14. The Rebels scored on the final play of the half with a 30-yard rushing touchdown by Milhorn to enter the break leading 33-14.
The second half started with Braevyn Myers taking a 32-yard shovel pass to the house for six. The Rebels led 40-14 with 6:54 in the third. Kade Jeffries took his turn at scoring and caught a pass that landed him in the end zone. The lead grew to 46-14 and then grew to 52-14 with Hayden Ricker’s rushing touchdown in the fourth.
Deshawn McCraw scored on a 50-yard rushing touchdown on the last play of the game.
South Greene ended Homecoming with a 52-20 victory over North Greene.
The Rebels host Surgoinsville for 8th Grade Night next Thursday at 6:00 at Camp Creek. North Greene ends their regular season on Tuesday with a home game hosting Rogersville at 6:00.
