Eagles Better Pioneers In Greeneville

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Carson-Newman continued its hot start to the women’s volleyball season with a sweep of Tusculum on Tuesday (Sept. 23) night.

The Pioneers (3-7, 1-3 SAC) were overcome by the Eagles (11-1, 2-1 SAC) with scores of 25-12, 25-20, 25-23.

Emerson Ahsmuhs accounted for 19 kills on a .471 hitting percentage to lead C-N to the rivalry win. Blair Cherry dished out 36 assists with two service aces and eight digs to lead all three categories for the Eagles. Bella Cardello had a hand in six of the seven blocks for the visitors.

Grace VanZwieten finished with a team-best nine kills. Both Jaida Alvin and Mackenzie Land notched seven kills, while Karris Oller, Adreana Lee, and Eliza Jewell Oliverius landed a pair. Victoria Church added the final kill. Lee was a perfect 2-for-2 on her attempts. Church dished out 25 assists, while Taylor Sanders registered three of the four TU aces. Mary Katherine Hall tied the match-best eight digs as three Pioneers were credited with a pair of blocks: VanZwieten, Land, and Isabella Bianchin.

Carson-Newman hit .316 as a team with 42 kills and 12 errors on 95 total attempts. Tusculum hit .121 with 30 kills, 19 errors, and 91 total attacks. The Eagles led the Pioneers in assists (39-27), service aces (5-4), digs (38-36), and total blocks (7-5).

Tusculum is on the road for its next two matches. The Pioneers have a week off before traveling to UVA Wise next Tuesday (Sept. 30) for a 7 p.m. first serve.
