SOUTH BEND, Ind. –  Redshirt senior Lance Simpson earned his highest career finish with a top-five showing at the Fighting Irish Classic at Warren Golf Club

The Knoxville native started his day inside the top 10 and, with a final round score of 66 with five birdies, surged three spots up the leaderboard to a tie for first place alongside two other players. Simpson then went into 3-for-1 playoff for first place, but North Carolina’s Carson Bertagnole pulled away with the win on the second playoff hole.

His final-round score was the lowest in the 84-player field.

Tennessee men’s golf wrapped up its third tournament of the 2025 fall season with a tie for sixth place at 12-over.

Dickson, Tennessee, native Jackson Herrington would finish his tournament just outside the top-25 with a tie for 29th, posting a 3-over score in round three.

Senior Josh Hill was the third-highest scorer for the Volunteers, tying for 39th place; Hill capped off the event at 7-over.

Competing as an individual in his first season with Tennessee, Reed Lotter finished inside the top 50 with a tie for 46th, using his tournament-best score of 2-over in the final round to propel him up the leaderboard.

Redshirt junior Bruce Murphy and freshman Chase Kyes rounded out Tennessee’s counting scores. Murphy tied for 53rd with a final round of 3-over, while Kyes finished with a 2-over score, earning him a tie for 64th.

UP NEXT: The Vols will head south to Biloxi, Mississippi, for the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational, which runs from Saturday, Oct. 18, to Monday, Oct. 20.
