Athletes in Greene County will have two opportunities to sign up to join the area’s first TSSAA sanctioned high-school lacrosse program.
Sign-up meetings will take place on Saturday, January 24, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and on Saturday, January 31, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the indoor practice field on the campus of Tusculum University.
South Greene High, Greeneville High, and Chuckey Doak High are TSSAA-approved to join forces for this history-making team via cooperative agreement. South Greene serves as the lead team.
The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association sanctioned lacrosse in Tennessee for boys and girls in 2024.
Austin Wallace, a Tusculum University graduate, TU Men’s lacrosse alumnus, and Hawkins County educator will serve as the inaugural team’s head coach.
“A local lacrosse team provides an additional athletic opportunity to area students as well as scrutiny from college recruiters,” Wallace said. “I can’t wait to share this fast-paced sport with new players, face-off with area competition, and promote lacrosse in East Tennessee.”
Team practice begins in February.
