West Greene’s Lady Buffaloes jumped out to a fast start, endured some sluggish stretches on Senior Night, and ultimately secured a 38–31 victory over Happy Valley on Friday night.
“It was rough,” head coach Betsy Shaw said. “I thought we played really good defense, holding them to 31 points. I thought Erica (Davis) had a good game, but all in all it was a really rough game.”
Erica Davis led the Lady Buffaloes with 11 points, while Payton Norton added nine. Emily Justis and Joie Shipley each chipped in five points. Addie Moore paced the Lady Warriors with 13 points, and Alex Moore followed with nine.
West Greene built a 14–6 advantage after the first quarter as Norton scored four points and established an inside presence that caused early problems for Happy Valley.
Three-pointers from Justis and Katelyn Begines in the second quarter helped the Lady Buffs extend their lead to 24–13 heading into halftime.
Davis took control in the third quarter, scoring eight of West Greene’s 12 points in the period to push the lead to 36–24.
Offense was hard to come by in the fourth quarter, as the teams combined to shoot just 3-for-18 from the field and score nine total points.
“I thought a couple of times late we had some rough turnovers trying to take care of the ball,” Shaw said. “But in the end, I thought they played well.”
West Greene will wrap up the conference portion of its schedule Monday night when the Lady Buffs travel to South Greene to face the Lady Rebels.
