North Greene 72, University High 60
The North Greene boys basketball team picked up a 72-60 win over University High on Tuesday night in the third-place game of the District 1-1A Tournament.
Four Huskies entered double figures led by Jaiden Bailey who hit seven three-pointers and scored 22 points. Thomas Darnell had 17, Tyler Britton 15 and Havoc Fair 11.
For University High Mekji Yocum and Ty Templin each scored 13 points. Zulum Aninyei had 12 points and Mason Francis 10.
The Huskies advance to the Region 1-1A Tournament where they will play at Cosby on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
Volunteer 69, Greeneville 66
The Greeneville boys basketball team traded blows with Volunteer all night, but in the end fell 69-66 in overtime in the District 2-3A championship game at Grainger.
Zy Neal led Greeneville in scoring with 24 points, Taren Claridy had 13 points, including the shot that sent the game to overtime. Braylen Kidwell finished with 11 points and Yordan Mills had 10.
For Volunteer Griffin Head scored 19 points, Amarion Graves had 15 and Jeremiah Jones had 14.
Greeneville moves on to the Region 1-3A Tournament and will host David Crockett on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
Unicoi County 62, South Greene 59
The South Greene boys basketball team dug out of a 16-point hole and forced overtime on Tuesday night in the District 1-2A championship game, but ultimately the Rebels came up short in a 62-59 loss.
Gavin Dyer led the Rebels with 19 points, Jameson White had 15 and Noah Wright scored 10 points.
For Unicoi County Mr. Basketball finalist Jackson Simmons led the way with 26 points. Carter Simmons had 17 points, and A.J. Thomas scored 10 points.
West Greene 60, Chuckey-Doak 58
The West Greene boys basketball team played from behind for most of Tuesday night, but rallied late to pick up a 60-58 win over Chuckey-Doak in the third-place game of the District 1-2A Tournament.
West Greene’s Ayden Lamons took over in the second half and scored 16 of his game-high 20 points. Tytus Shelton chipped in with 17 points for the Buffaloes.
For Chuckey-Doak Gavin Crum and Ryland Grindstaff each scored 16 points while Jake Broyles put in 15 points.
Both teams will be on the road in the quarterfinals of the Region 1-2A Tournament on Saturday. West Greene will visit District 2-2A runner up Cumberland Gap and Chuckey-Doak will be at District 2-2A champion Gatlinburg-Pittman.
