Greeneville 10, Jefferson County 0
Behind a no-hitter from Will Harmon the Greeneville baseball team opened the season on Monday with a 10-0 win over Jefferson County.
Harmon was dominant on the hill in his first outing of the the year as he struck out nine, walked one and allowed no hits in a 65-pitch complete game.
He also had a good day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Tegan Begley went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Sam Thompson had a double with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Hampton 4, South Greene 1 (9 Innings)
The South Greene baseball team started the year by into extra innings but falling to Hampton 4-1 nine frames on Monday evening.
The Rebels earned five hits and six walks, but only pushed one runner across the plate on a ground out by Colton Fillers in the fifth inning.
Christian Darnell led South Greene by going 2-for-4 while Cameron Kinser, Ricker and Maddux Brown each had one hit.
Hampton decided the game in the ninth inning with Eli Henson doubling to score the go-ahead run, and Jayden Kuhn following with a two-run single.
On the mound Fillers went 5.1 innings with five strike outs, six walks, and one hit allowed. Dawson Ripley threw one inning with one strikeout. Tyler Davis took the loss. In 2.2 innings he struck out four, walked four and allowed four hits.
David Crockett 7, Chuckey-Doak 3
The Chuckey-Doak baseball team started the season on Monday with a 7-3 loss to David Crockett.
Chuckey-Doak out hit the Pioneers 8-4 on Monday, but 12 walks and two errors helped Crockett get around the base path.
Braxton Lowe led the Black Knights by going 2-for-4 with a double. Kiptyn Ball, Randall Sauceman, Collin Bishop, Kayden Bowers, Shane Cook and Gavin Murray all had one hit. Seay walked three times.
On the mound Lynkin Cutshaw went three innings with four strikeouts, six walks, and two hits allowed.
SOCCER
Greeneville 8, Chuckey-Doak 1
The Greeneville soccer team started the season with an 8-1 win over Chuckey-Doak on Monday night.
Emerson Hensley led the way for Greeneville with three goals. Sam Gourley scored twice while Matthew Lindberg, Gabe Oakley, and Kevin Moreno each scored one goal.
Dominic Hahnlen scored Chuckey-Doak’s lone goal in the 56th minute.
BASKETBALL
Greeneville 67, Elizabethton 44
The Greeneville girls basketball team extended its season on Monday night at Grainger High School by defeating Elizabethton 67-44 in the Region 1-3A Tournament semifinals.
With the win Greeneville advances to Wednesday’s championship game and will take on Daniel Boone at 7 PM. The Lady Devils also clinched a berth in Saturday’s state sectional round.
Julia Woolsey led the Lady Devils with 19 points and seven rebounds. Maria Lyde had 17 points, seven rebounds, six steals and four blocks. Brylee Tullock had 15 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
North Greene 63, Cosby 47
The North Greene girls basketball team picked up a 63-47 win over Cosby on Monday night at Washburn in the Region 1-1A Tournament semifinals.
With the win the Lady Huskies move on the region championship game on Wednesday where they will meet Unaka. They also secure a berth in Saturday’s state sectionals.
Tralyn Southerland led North Greene with 24 points while going 11-of-14 at the foul line. Ella Head scored 13 points and Josie Graham put in 11.
Azariah Spurgeon led Cosby with 15 points.
