Celebrating success has become a hallmark of Greeneville’s bowling program over the past two decades, and that tradition continued Friday afternoon as Breana Brown became the third female bowler from the program to sign and continue her academic and athletic career at the collegiate level.
In front of family and friends, Brown made it official that she will join Union Commonwealth University, a program that competes in the Mid-South Athletic Conference and is coming off a season in which it qualified for the NAIA Sectionals.
“This signing is special,” Greeneville coach David Painter said. “Not only does she become the second bowler from our program this year to sign with my alma mater and get the chance to bowl with her teammate Addison Phillips, but Bre also becomes the first bowler from West Greene to earn this opportunity.”
Brown shared her excitement about the moment as well. “Joining the program is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, and it feels really exciting to be the first,” she said.
Brown, who plans to major in criminal justice, was invited to tour Union by Phillips and quickly fell in love with the campus. “It was really small and secluded without a lot of people, and I had a really good experience especially with the players and coaches,” Brown said.
Breana is coming off a successful senior season in which she helped lead the Lady Devils to runner-up finishes in both the district and regional tournaments and a berth in the state sectionals, placing the team among the top 16 in the state. She finished the season with a 135 average, the third highest on the team, and posted a 14–12 individual record.
