South Greene’s Alexa Gabbard became the first local athlete to qualify for the Spring Fling and she did so by collecting gold at the Class A East Section Pentathlon. For that she has been named the Greene Sports Zone Player Of The Week.
Gabbard had a strong showing in all five events on her way to claiming her sectional championship and she will be the top seed in the Class A State Pentathlon which will be held on May 13 at Hardin Valley Academy in Knoxville. She was first in the long jump, second in the 100 meter hurdles, second in the shot put, third in the high jump and fourth in the 800 meters.
