Greeneville 6 – Elizabethton 4
Greeneville and Elizabethton opened a four-game series Thursday night at Eastman Credit Union Field, and the Flyboys used a big second inning to earn a 6-4 victory. Greeneville scored all six of its runs in the bottom of the second and held on the rest of the way, improving to 12-10 on the season and moving into first place in the Western Division.
Carson Ray led the Flyboys’ 10-hit attack, going 2-for-5 with a double, a single, and an RBI. Matthew Cash and Nelson Grajales-Vazquez also contributed two singles apiece in the win.
Braxton Lewis made his final start for Greeneville but did not factor into the decision. He worked four innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three and walking one.
Bradley Coulter earned his fourth win of the season with two innings of relief. He surrendered one run on two hits, struck out two, and walked one. Bennett Percivall closed out the game by recording his second save of the year, allowing one hit and striking out one in the ninth inning.
The Flyboys travel to Elizabethton for game two of the series Friday evening before returning home Saturday night for game three, which will be followed by a fireworks extravaganza celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday.
