A week ago Chuckey-Doak earned a dramatic, last-second win over Claiborne and now it will try to celebrate senior night with similar exuberance as Volunteer comes to the Black Hole on Friday.
“Our kids played really hard and to win like that was special,” Chuckey-Doak coach Billy Kaylor said. “We had every chance to give that one away, we didn’t play our best on offense in the first half. But we gave ourselves a chance to be in position to win. The guys came through with a big drive in a big situation, and that made for a pretty fun night.”
At the outset of the season many might have looked at Volunteer as a pushover, after all the Falcons entered 2025 on a 25-game losing streak with one win in three years. But first-year coach Jeremy Wagner has turned things around and the Falcons are 5-1 entering Friday’s contest. It is the program’s best ever start to the season, and with a win on Friday the Falcons would tie the program record for wins in a season.
“Their coach has done a really good job and they have improved a lot,” Kaylor said. “It’s certainly not the same team you saw even a year ago. This is a good football team coming in here Friday night and it will be a challenge for us.”
The Falcons have seen the most growth on offense where they are averaging 37.5 point per game. They have used some lopsided margins to reach five wins, including 30-0 over Daniel Boone, 50-0 over Claiborne and 41-8 over Northview last week.
Quarterback Lincoln Wilson is throwing for 204 yards per game and has 15 touchdown passes. His favorite target is Amarion Graves who has 25 receptions for 485 yards and six touchdowns through six games. Five different Falcons have a touchdown catch this season, and four different receivers have more than 10 receptions.
“They have some receivers that can fly and a quarterback that can spin it,” Kaylor said. “They have a high-powered offense that has scored a lot points, and it will put some stress on us defensively.”
Chuckey-Doak is coming off a week where it had to go to the air to beat Claiborne 19-13. Quarterback Kiptyn Ball was 15-for-18 passing for 186 yards and three touchdowns, that included a game-winning touchdown connection with Dominic Hahnlen as time expired.
On Friday the Black Knights will try to establish the line of scrimmage to try to get running backs Brayden Greene and Marcus Britt going early.
The Black Knights enter the contest with a 4-3 record and will be playing on their home field for the final time in the regular season. Friday will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
