Monday afternoon at Hardin Park, both the Greeneville Lady Devils and David Crockett Lady Pioneers looked to roll into the region tournament and make some strides towards advancing to a potential state title.
Following a scoreless first, the Lady Pioneers broke through to take the 1-0 lead behind a trifecta of singles by Laney Britton, Eva Marler, and Bailey Dugger. The Lady Devils avoided any further damage when Leah Phillips got the next hitter to pop out and then the next two to strike out.
Kaylee Garland reached on an error when the throw was mishandled by the first baseman in the bottom of the second. She would come all the way around to score the tying run when Brynlee Jones lined a double to the right field wall.
From that point, it would be all Lady Pioneers. They scored in every inning, including 5 in the third and 4 in the sixth to pull away to the 15-4 win.
Marler was the top hitter, picking up 4 of the Pioneer’s 21 hits, including a double and 3 singles, and driving in 3. Britton picked up 3 singles and an RBI, while Autumn Wynn slugged a pair of blasts that cleared the right centerfield wall for 3 RBI’s.
Madison Dulaney picked up the win in the circle, going 6 innings and giving up 4 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 7. Phillips took the loss. Jones, Garland, and Lauren Million each picked up a double and single for the Lady Devils as they saw their season come to an end with a 26-14 record.
Crockett advances to the region finals to face off with Tennessee High, who defeated Grainger 4-2.
