GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — JJ Williams went 5-for-5 with two home runs and scored six runs while driving in four to lead Lee University to a 16-2 win at Tusculum University Tuesday night at Pioneer Park.

The Flames (17-14) recorded 19 hits and scored in eight of nine innings as 10 different players recorded at least a hit for the visitors.

Lee used seven different pitchers as the quartet of David White, Ty Cobb, Evan Bloomer blanked the Pioneers (10-20) for the final five innings.

Williams reached base in all six of his plate appearances while also recorded three stolen bases. The Flames finished the game with eight thefts on the base paths. Williams homers were his team-leading sixth and seven round-trippers of the season.

Zachary Lawson (1-2) picked up the win in relief as he went two innings, allowed one run on four hits with two walks in his 38-pitch outing. TU starter Brice Anders (1-6) suffered the loss.

Tusculum finished the game with eight hits including two each by Ty Smith and Anthony Cobb.

TU third baseman Max Schmarder recorded a single in the fourth inning to extend his hitting streak to 20 straight games, which is the 10th longest in program history. Schmarder has also reached base safely in 25 consecutive outings, which is tied for the 10th longest run by a Pioneer.

Schmarder becomes the first Pioneer to record a hitting streak of 20 or more games since Daulton Martin hit safely in 23 straight games from Apr. 19, 2017 to Feb. 20, 2018.

Tusculum second baseman Caleb Webster went 0-for-3 to end his hitting streak at 17 straight games.

The Pioneers return to action this weekend when they host Emory & Henry for a South Atlantic Conference series beginning with Friday’s 6 p.m. opener.
