Greeneville Middle School’s Lady Devils battled Indian Trail tooth and nail Monday evening, but the Hawks turned up the intensity in the second half and pulled away for a 35–20 win.
Both teams struggled early and couldn’t find the bottom of the net, but Baylor Higgins scored five in the opening quarter as the Hawks jumped out to a 10–5 lead. Buckets from Maggie Moore and Ava Harrison, along with a free throw by Riley Mathena, kept the Lady Devils within striking distance.
The shooting woes continued in the second quarter, but Indian Trail extended its advantage to 16–8 heading into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Hawks used a swarming defense to force timely turnovers that turned into transition baskets, stretching the lead to 31–13. Higgins added six in the period, while Riley Maiden chipped in four.
The Lady Devils continued to fight and closed the game on a 7–4 run in the final quarter, highlighted by a three-pointer from Kamila DeVale.
Higgins led all scorers with 13, while Massy Osbolt and Rooty Athens added five each. Greeneville was paced by Harrison’s six and Mathena’s four, with Moore and DeVale contributing three apiece.
