ALCOA – The Greeneville wrestling team made the trip to Alcoa on Tuesday looking to build momentum heading into the new year, and the Greene Devils delivered in emphatic fashion with a flawless 5-0 performance at the F5 Duals.
Greeneville improved to 23-4 on the season with victories over Seymour (75-6), Ooltewah (37-31), Alcoa (42-41), Concord Christian (53-12), and Samuel Everett (51-22) in a day that tested the depth and conditioning of the entire roster.
Head Coach Randy Shelton said, “Well, I think the first thing when you come to a dual meet tournament is you never know which kid needs to step up. It could be your 126 pounder. Could be your 132 pounder. Could be your 215 pounder. But in every match, we had a kid, turn a loss into a pin or didn’t give up bonus points. And that’s the key to winning duals.”
Brylan Rhodes, Gabe Oakley, Hunter Shelton and Hayden Moore all ended the day undefeated with 5-0 records individually.
LOOKING AHEAD
The 5-0 performance at the F5 Duals pushed Greeneville’s record to an impressive 23-4 on the season and provided valuable momentum heading into state contention.
With the new year approaching, the Greene Devils have shown they have the depth and talent to compete with anyone. Days like Tuesday, where every wrestler is called upon to contribute, builds the groundwork that pays dividends in championship season.
Greeneville will look to carry this momentum forward as it continues its pursuit of a region championship and beyond.
