Greeneville senior Randen Fillers is not done chasing baseball championships, and on Tuesday with his friends and family gathered around he signed to join the baseball program at Walters State Community College.

“This is exciting. It’s a dream come true, and it’s a weight off my shoulders,” Fillers said. “It means the world to have this chance. I think every athlete dreams about playing in college, and to sign and have that chance to play at Walters State puts a smile on my face.”

Walters State, located just down the road in Morristown, is one of the premiere junior college programs in the nation, and Fillers is looking forward to the opportunity to play for the Senators.

“Walters State has always had a great program,” Fillers said. “I’ve liked and followed them because they are good. But when I really started looking into them they actually work and get after it. They are about the grind, a lot like we are here at Greeneville.”

The Senators are coming off of a 53-13 season in which they once again advanced to the NJCAA World Series. In 2025 Walters State was the national runner up. It has advanced to the NJCAA World Series 12 times since 2003, and won six Tennessee Community College Athletic Association tournament championships since 2018.

The Senators have sent 25 players to Division I schools over the past two years, and that is the goal for Fillers down the road.

“I’d love to be at D1 college when I’m done at Walters State,” Fillers said. “Getting to the majors would be a dream, but I want to try to be somewhere bigger in a couple of years.”

Fillers has been a standout on the mound for the Greene Devils. He was part of two state championship teams and one second-place team. In his senior season he threw 55.1 innings with a 5-3 record. He struck out 63, walked 33 and turned in a 4.048 ERA. One of his best moments came in the Class 3A State Tournament where he shut out Alcoa for six innings.

He knows getting stronger and increasing velocity will be important at the next level and Fillers plans on spending the next several months in the weight room.

Fillers has an affinity for numbers and plans to major in accounting at Walters State. He is also considering getting a barber license after his baseball days are done, and he likes the idea of opening a shop with his brother, Caden.
