The Tennessee Sports Writers Association released its All-State baseball teams on Tuesday and four local athletes earned state-wide recognition.

Greeneville’s Carson Quillen, Noah Murray and Will Harmon were named to the Class 3A All-State Team, and Chuckey-Doak’s Jake Hinkle was named to the Class 2A All-State Team.

Quillen was named to the All-State baseball team for the third time and this marks his sixth overall All-State selection after being recognized three times in football as well. In his senior season Quillen was named Class 3A’s Mr. Baseball Award recipient.

To earn that award he turned in maybe the greatest baseball season in Greene County history. At the plate Quillen hit .512 with a .657 on-base percentage. He had 65 total hits, 21 doubles, two triples and three home runs. He drove in 36 runs and scored 69 runs. Quillen walked 48 times and stole 49 bases.

He saved his best performance for his final game, going 4-for-4 with five RBIs in the state championship game. That included a game-ending two-run double that secured the Greene Devils a second state title in three years.

On the mound Quillen had a 10-1 record with a 2.0 ERA in 62.1 innings. He struck out 66 batters, walked just 17 and allowed 60 hits. He earned two wins on the mound in the Class 3A State Tournament, including a shutout in the state championship game.

Murray was the guy on the receiving end of those deliveries from Quillen and over his career at Greeneville he became an invaluable asset at catcher. He directed the defense, was in constant communication with the coaches and was a big reason why the Greene Devils had one of the best pitching staffs in the state.

On offense the Walters State signee became an asset in the batters box during his senior season. He finished with a .347 batting average, and .446 on-base percentage with 43 hits, eight doubles, two triples, one home run and 29 RBIs.

Harmon became one of the top arms in the state this season and a powerful piece of the Greene Devils’ lineup as a junior.

On the mound Harmon had an 8-3 record with four shutouts and a no hitter. In 66.1 innings he struck out 85, walked 21 and allowed 42 hits while turning in a 1.4 ERA.

He was selected to the Class 3A All-State team at a utility spot because his bat was just as good as his arm. He hit .346 with a .418 on-base percentage. Harmon had 47 hits with nine doubles, five triples and five home runs. He drove in an astounding 56 runs and scored 29 runs.

Hinkle was the leader of Chuckey-Doak this season as it won both the District 1-2A regular season and tournament titles.

The senior held down the top spot in the Black Knights’ lineup and made sure those batting behind him had a chance to drive in plenty of runs. The speedster hit .453 with a .539  on-base percentage. In 30 games he had 43 hits, 37 runs scored and 36 steals. Hinkle also had six doubles, a triple and two home runs with 19 RBIs.

He was the District 1-2A Defensive Player of the Year and the District 1-2A Tournament MVP.

On the mound he threw 41.1 innings with a 4.9 ERA. He had 32 strikeouts, 15 walks and allowed 52 hits.
