The North Greene football team will try to get back on track on Friday night, but it will be no easy task as unbeaten Jellico visits the Tundra.
“Since I’ve been here this has always been the wildest game of the year. It doesn’t matter where either team is or how they are doing, something always seems to happen. We just have to play disciplined and we can’t spot good teams turnovers and good field position.”
The Huskies and Blue Devils have been involved in some classic battles in recent years, and each of the last four years the game has been decided by seven points or fewer. Last year North Greene won 19-14, sealing the game on a goalline stand as time expired.
North Greene leads the all-time series 9-6. North Greene has won the last two meetings in the series.
After a 48-7 loss to Hampton last week the Huskies are now 2-4 overall and 1-1 in Region 1-1A play.
The Blue Devils are 6-0 overall and 3-0 in region play. Last week they made a game-ending goal-line stand to secure a 26-22 win over Cloudland. The week prior they surprised the whole region by beating Hampton 36-22.
Cosby is also unbeaten in region play at 2-0 and Hampton sits in third place at 2-1. In the eight-team region a win on Friday would go a long way in increasing the Huskies’ playoff odds.
In the win over Hampton Jellico quarterback Owen Morgan threw for 155 yards and four touchdowns while also running for 157 yards. The Huskies will also have to be warry of Clayton Hamblin and Caydon Hamblin who will both be used as runners and pass catchers.
“They have a lot of good skill guys at a lot of positions, and we can’t key on one guy,” Tilson said. “They have a very good quarterback. They are big up front and they are fast on the outside. It will be a challenge.”
North Greene will lean on running back Leon Johnson who is averaging over 100 yards per game on the ground.
Through the air Jared Swatzell threw for 146 yards against Hampton and the Huskies will look to keep the defense honest by spreading the ball around to receivers Matt Boyd, Kelson Eastep and Levi Gray.
Kickoff for Friday’s game is scheduled for 7 PM at North Greene. The game will also be livestreamed on the Greene Sports Zone Facebook and YouTube pages.
