A shocking coaching vacancy has opened in Greene County as former Chuckey-Doak head football coach Dallas Kuykendall was introduced as Morristown East head football coach on Monday.
Kuykendall spent one season as Chuckey-Doak head coach leading the Black Knights to a 10-2 record and a trip to the second round of the TSSAA Playoffs losing to Gatlinburg-Pittman 47-34.
Chuckey-Doak Athletic Director Kyle Donahue said in a quote, “Change is never easy and while we are disheartened in the early departure, we are resolute in our search for the next head football coach of Chuckey-Doak High School.” Donahue continued, “We continue to strive to be a standard which others can follow and that will continue with the search of our next head football coach.”
Following a long tenure from Ben Murphy in Lower Afton, the Black Knights are now searching for their fourth coach in four years as Kuykendall took over for Matt Ripley, who stepped down after just one season as head coach due to personal reasons in 2022.
Kuykendall replaces Caleb Slover, who stepped down from Morristown East head football coach in February to accept the same position at Sweetwater High School. Slover had been the head coach at East since 2019. The Hurricanes went 4-7 last season with a first-round playoff loss to Maryville 49-0. The Chuckey-Doak Black Knights begin their 2023 football season on August 18 against Unaka.
