Middle school football season got underway for Chuckey-Doak, North Greene, South Greene and West Greene on Thursday evening at Camp Creek with the Greene County Middle School Jamboree.
North Greene 8, Parrottsville 0
In the opening quarter North Greene got the best of Parrottsville and earned an 8-0 win.
The Huskies only ran three offensive plays in their quarter, but they gained at least 13 yards on each of them. Archer Tippins and Ryder Verran both ran for first downs to push the ball across midfield.
On the next snap the Parrots looked as though they had Tippins stopped in the backfield, but he spun away from the tacklers and then raced 43 yards for the period’s lone touchdown. Tippins ran in the two-point try as well.
Parrottsville could not find the endzone on its lone possession, but the Parrots methodical offense ran nearly 10 minutes off the clock which prevented North Greene from getting another chance to score.
Chuckey-Doak 16, Cocke County 0
In the second quarter of the evening Chuckey-Doak took advantage of some Cocke County miscues to earn a 16-0 win.
The quarter began with each team fumbling on its second offensive play, but when the Black Knights got their second chance they made the most of it. Brody Myers got things going with a 16-yard pass to Cooper Broyles before Zaiden Schacke raced 22 yards into the red zone.
Myers finished the drive by powering eight yards up the middle for the touchdown. He followed with the same play on the two-point try to give Chuckey-Doak an 8-0 lead.
On the Fighting Cocks next play Schacke jumped on a fumble and quickly gave the ball back to the Knights.
Myers again got things done with his feet, going around the right corner for a 14-yard touchdown. On the two-point try Myers hit Schacke in the flat and he easily crossed the goal line for a 16-0 lead.
Chuckey-Doak’s defense forced and recovered a third fumble before the quarter expired.
South Greene 8, West Greene 0
In the final quarter of the jamboree South Greene’s defense set the tone early and set its offense up for a quick score in an 8-0 win over West Greene.
On the first snap of the period the Buffaloes fumbled, and the Rebels recovered 34 yards from their end zone.
On South Greene’s first play Sammy Jones went up the right side for 10 yards and a first down. Michael Parris then took a jet sweep 24 yards, racing through the defense and into the endzone.
On the two-point try Wyatt Milhorn powered his way through the middle of the defense for an 8-0 Rebels’ advantage.
When West Greene got the ball back the Buffaloes moved the ball 40 yards in eight minutes, but they could not get to the goal line before time ran out. The Buffs mostly alternated between runs from Hudson Lawson and quarterback Jagger Dearinger.
In a junior varsity quarter South Greene and Chuckey-Doak played to a 0-0 tie.
