Pioneers Travel To ETSU For Exhibition

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — East Tennessee State University defeated Tusculum University 103-55 in women’s basketball action Thursday evening at Brooks Gymnasium. The game was an exhibition contest for the Division II Pioneers, while the Bucs improved to 9-6 with the win.

The Bucs placed four players in double figures, led by 19 points from Brecken Snotherly. Courtney Moore scored 17 points and Kendall Folley had 15 points and six assists as ETSU shot 49.4 percent (43-for-87) from the field. Paige Lyons also reached double figures with 12 points off the bench for ETSU.

Ni’Kiah Chesterfield was the leading scorer for the Pioneers with 14 points along with six rebounds. Danyell Booker had seven points and eight rebounds and Josie Horner contributed seven points for Tusculum, which shot 37.3 percent (22-for-59) from the field as a team and committed 31 turnovers.

Jenna Kallenberg, Jalyn Spurlin and Zoe Sharpe each scored six points for Tusculum, with Abbi Douglas sharing the team high with Booker at eight rebounds. The Pioneers had a 46-39 rebound margin over the Bucs, who were led by Isabella Hunt who grabbed nine boards in 16 minutes off the ETSU bench.

ETSU led from start to finish, holding a 25-18 advantage after one quarter and stretching the lead to 47-32 at halftime. The second half was all Bucs as ETSU outscored Tusculum by a 56-23 margin, including 29-6 in the final quarter. ETSU scored 37 points off Tusculum’s turnovers and outscored the Pioneers 32-4 on fast break points.

Tusculum will resume its South Atlantic Conference schedule on Saturday, January 4 when Limestone visits Pioneer Arena for a 2 p.m. tipoff.  Listen on 95.5FM WSMG.
