Brynlee Jones was dominant from both the rubber and the batter’s box last week as she helped Greeneville earn four wins, including two in District 2-3A play. For that she has been named the Greene Sports Zone Player of the Week.
Jones’ week was highlighted by a pair of 10-strikeout nights against district rivals Volunteer and Grainger. On Tuesday she completely shut down Volunteer in a 6-0, complete-game win in which she struck out 10, walked five and allowed just one hit. She came back on Thursday against Grainger to strike out 10, walk three and allow six hits in a 3-0 win. She was not done and threw a perfect two innings on Friday against North Greene to earn the save in a 5-4 win. In total she threw 16 innings with 21 strikeouts, eight walks and seven hits allowed.
Jones’ bat was equally effective in the Lady Devils’ big week. Against Volunteer she got the evening started with a three-run home run. Against Grainger she was 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored. Against North Greene she used a two-run home run to put the Lady Devils in front for good in the fifth inning. For the week she was 4-10 with two home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored.
