The South Greene girls basketball team started District 1-2A play 2-0 last week and Kortnei Bailey’s scoring deftness was a big reason why. For that she has been named Greene Sports Zone’s Player of the Week.
The Lady Rebels started the week with a 54-52 overtime win over Unicoi County in that game Bailey poured in 20 points to lead all scorers. That included eight points in the fourth quarter and overtime, and the go ahead bucket with 1:40 left in the overtime period. On Friday Bailey led a tough defensive effort while putting in 16 points on offense to lead South Greene to a 55-45 win over West Greene that gave the Lady Rebels early control of the district standings.
