Tralyn Southerland stepped up at the biggest moments for North Greene last week as she led the way in a pair of must-win games that propelled the Lady Huskies to the Class 1A State Tournament for the seventh straight season. For that she has been named the Greene Sports Zone Player of the Week.
Southerland started her busy week in the Region 1-1A semifinals against Cosby by pouring in 24 points in a 63-47 win that extended the season. On Wednesday in the region championship game the Lady Huskies fell to Unaka 63-61 in overtime, but Southerland was able to power in 13 points. With a trip to the state tournament on the line on Saturday in the state sectionals North Greene went to Oneida and went to overtime again. This time the Lady Huskies earned a 76-71 win and Southerland led the way with 29 points.
