GOLF
The Greeneville girls golf team took home first prize on Saturday in the Greene Devil Invitational at Link Hills Country Club.
The Lady Devils set a program record by shooting a 144. Kamyrn Renner led that effort with a one-under par 70 to claim medalist honors. Brylee Catron shot a 74 to finish second overall. Kylee Renner had a 76 to tie for third overall.
Alcoa was second with a 157, led by Sophia Parsons 76. Christian Academy of Knoxville was third with a 165, led by Kalen Jackson’s 82.
Harley Thompson of Chuckey-Doak shot an 87.
CAK claimed the boys team championship with 283. Tyler Stafford and Roddy Sturgeon each shot a 70. Stafford took medalist honors. Aiden Cooper was third with a 71 and Ryan Miller was tied for fourth overall with a 72.
Morristown West was second with a 306, led by Reid Patrick’s 74.
Greeneville shot a 306 as well. Nathan Howlett shot a 72 to tie for fourth place. Bryson Ricker had a 75, Carson Waters 79 and Andrew England 80.
South Greene shot a 323. Kenan Hankins tied for fourth with a 72, Brennan Gregg had a 75, Cameron Kinser 87 and Ben Gosnell 89.
Chuckey-Doak shot a 397. Knox McAmis had a 91, Harrison Ayers 102, Ty Shelton 102, and Denver Huff 102.
CROSS COUNTRY
Greeneville’s Trey Bailey came in first place on Saturday in Knoxville at the Cherokee Classic cross country race.
Bailey ran the five kilometer course in 15:54. He was seven seconds ahead of second-place Levi Detwiler from Cookeville
Greeneville’s Jules Richards was 48th in 17:48, Grant Tunnell was 91st, Mason Boatman 104th, and RIley DiSalvo 123rd. As a team Greeneville was 11th out of 36 teams with 330 points.
Daniel Boone came in first as a team with 41 points. Science Hill was second with 174.
In the girls race Greeneville’s Maggie Moore was 18th in 20:46. Ashlyn Ranly was 47th and Bethany Knight 81st.
Emery Adams of CAK won the girls race in 19:21.50.
CAK won the team title with 77 points, and Science Hill was second with 82 points.
In the Dr. Enuf XC Night Classic in Johnson City Ella Harrison of Towering Oaks finished in second place in 20:08.96 and South Greene’s Chelsea Metcalf was third in 20:33.94.
Towering Oaks placed third as a team. Alayna Overholt was seventh in 21:57.16, Riley Roberts was 25th, Rachel Yantachka 27th and Ady Lawson 39th.
South Greene was fourth as a team. Ava Leasure was 13th in 23:35.78, Kinzlee Darnell was 24th, Riley Walters 28th Aubrii Gregg 38th.
Braydin Baresel of Unicoi County in the girls race in 20:01.18.
Dobyns-Bennett captured the team championship.
In the boys race South Greene’s Noah Case placed sixth in 16:55.31. Jayden Laycek was 36th, Gabriel McKinney 38th and Benley Stewart 63rd.
For the Towering Oaks boys Xavier Gourley was 17th in 18:23.74. Cole Durrua was 22nd in 18:56.30. Kydon Fugate was 34th, Declan Gourley 41st and Isaiah Helfrich 43rd. Towering Oaks was fourth as a team.
Dobyns-Bennett won the boys race and Unicoi County was second.
Elijah Williams of Dobyns-Bennett was first overall in 16:00.83.
