Unicoi County 61, South Greene 32
The South Greene girls basketball team took its first loss in District 1-2A play on Thursday night, falling at Unicoi County 61-32.
Brooklyn Sparks led the Lady Blue Devils with 20 points while Emma Grace Andes scored put in 13 points.
On a cold-shooting night Ari Hoese led the Lady Rebels with nine points and Kortnei Bailey had eight.
West Greene 65, Chuckey-Doak 43
The West Greene girls basketball team protected its home court on Thursday night, taking down Chuckey-Doak 65-43 in a cross-county showdown.
Payton Norton led the Lady Buffaloes with 16 points while Joie Shipley and Emily Justis both scored 12 points.
Chloe Kirkpatrick and Kori Hollifield each scored eight points for Chuckey-Doak.
North Greene 61, Hampton 39
The North Greene girls renewed their longtime rivalry with Hampton on Thursday night and left Carter County with a 61-39 win over the Lady Bulldogs.
Tralyn Southerland led the Lady Huskies with 18 points and Ella Head was close behind with 17 points.
Hannah Baird scored 16 points for Hampton.
BOYS
Unicoi County 66, South Greene 47
The South Greene boys could not keep up with a hot-shooting Unicoi County squad on Thursday night and fell to the Blue Devils 66-47.
Cayden Fillers led the Rebels with 16 points and Gavin Dyer scorer 11 points.
For Unicoi County Jackson Simmons poured in 33 points while A.J. Thomas added 14 points.
Hampton 78, North Greene 44
The North Greene boys basketball team went to Hampton on Thursday night and fell 78-44.
Isaac Gaby led North Greene with 12 points, and Thomas Darnell put in 11 points. For Hampton Colby Clark and Chase Davenport each scored 19 points.
Chuckey-Doak 69, West Greene 68 (OT)
Chuckey-Doak’s Ryland Grindstaff first forced overtime with a clutch midrange jumper and then clinched a 69-68 win over West Greene on Thursday in Mosheim.
Grindstaff poured in 36 points for the Black Knights on Thursday night. Dom Atchison added 12 points for Chuckey-Doak.
West Greene put five players in double figures led by Luke Heck with 15 points. Josiah Dawson and Ayden Lamons each had 14 points, Parker Arnott scored 13 and Tytus Shelton added 12 points.
WRESTLING
The Greeneville wrestling team earned a trip to the Class A Duals State Tournament on Thursday evening by defeating Seymour 63-12 in the state sectionals.
Carson Hurst (113), Greg Tester (132), Mack Hall (157), James Treptow (175), Hayden Matthews (215) and Douglas Blake (285) all earned pins for the Greene Devils as they won 12 of the 14 matches.
