Friday night will be Senior Night on Rebel Hill and South Greene will recognize the class of 2027 prior to its contest with Concord Christian.
“I think we’ll go out there with a chip on our shoulder,” South Greene senior defensive back Angel Sanchez said. “You want to win on senior night. We know it’s our last chance to play on Rebel Hill and we want to make it count.”
Concord is in its second year of varsity football, and the Lions from Farragut are currently 4-3 on the year and coming off a 38-14 win over Providence Academy two weeks ago.
They will utilize a spread attack on offense that relies on quarterback Dylan Brown to spread the ball around to a variety of talented receivers. Brown has thrown for 1,329 yards and 19 touchdowns through seven games. Three different receivers have more than 20 catches.
On the ground the Lions are averaging 115 yards per game while adding seven rushing touchdowns.
“They are very athletic all the way around. They are very fast and quick,” South Greene senior Simon Burns said. “They will throw the ball, they want to spread you out and try to get it out quick. But they have some big linemen and a strong run game too.”
The Rebels sat idle last week, and they hope to have gotten healthier in the time off after injuries have decimated the depth chart.
Tripp Neas had been the star of the offense through the first half the season as he racked up 948 yards on the ground, but in the Rebels last two contests his availability has been limited.
In their last outing against Cumberland Gap the Rebels had to turn to their passing attack and quarterback Dawson Ripley turned in his most promising effort yet. That included 168 yards and three touchdowns. Burns was the recipient of 129 of those yards with two scores in the 52-26 loss.
South Greene sits at 3-4 on the year coming out of its bye week.
Last year was the first ever meeting between Concord and South Greene. Concord won 49-35 in a shootout.
Kickoff for Friday is set for 7 PM at South Greene with senior night ceremonies taking place beforehand.
It will be South Greene’s final home game of the season with the regular season finishing with trips to Eagleton and Happy Valley. The Rebels will be in the Class 2A playoffs but will be on the road in the first round.
