CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The No. 2/4 Tennessee soccer team posted its fifth straight shutout win after topping Western Carolina, 3-0.

Throughout the five-match span to start the season, UT has outscored its opponents 18-0. Additionally, the 5-0-0 start from the Lady Vols marks the best start in the Joe Kirt era.

Keaton Mitchell, Reese Mattern and Jenna Stayart each found the back of the net for the Lady Vols. Mitchell’s goal marked the first of her career while Mattern’s was her first of the season and fourth career goal. Stayart continued her form during the match and secured her second goal in as many matches and has six points on the year.

After a defensive battle to start, UT broke through in the 42nd minute after capitalizing on a corner kick. Dakota Brown took the corner for the Lady Vols and sent it into Ally Brown in the box who found Mitchell, who then headed it in to the right side of the goal.

After heading into the break up 1-0, the Big Orange came out hot in the second half when Midgley sent it to Mattern in the 50th minute for the second score of the match.

Stayart then capped off the scoring Sunday night with a header after Mattern dished it to her in the left side of the box.

Cayden Norris once again made the start in goal and registered a pair of saves for her fourth clean sheet of the season.

Throughout the match, UT logged 11 corners and 17 shots, with 10 coming on goal.

WCU put up six shots total (two on frame) with zero corner kicks.

Leanne Trudel, who was in goal for the Catamounts, logged seven saves. WCU forward Sofia Goclowski put up two shots on goal but was unable to break through.

UP NEXT: The Lady Vols will head to No. 15 Memphis for an in-state matchup at 8 p.m. ET Thursday.
