Volunteer Spoils Senior Night With 70-0 Win Over Chuckey-Doak

Chuckey-Doak endured a rough senior night on Friday night with a 70-0 loss to Volunteer.

“Credit to Volunteer they’re a great football team,” Black Knights Head Coach Billy Kaylor said.

It was the last time six seniors got to step on the field in Lower Afton and wear the black and gold at home.

Coach Kaylor spoke about those six seniors and all of the hard work they put in. “Six great kids. It’s been a pleasure to coach them. Any time you get that much time with a kid your heart goes to them. I love those kids to death and they mean a whole lot to our program.”

The Black Knights never really got started and never gained their footing on Friday. A fast and unmerciful Falcon offense never let off the gas and scored at will. They gained 461 total yards and held Chuckey-Doak to only 133.

Their night started with great field position at the 49-yard line after an onside kick. Bryson Christian converted back-to-back first downs with a 14-yard run followed by a 10-yard reception on third and nine. The Black Knights forced them into a 4th down situation, but Bryton Landry converted.

Amarion Graves hauled in a nine-yard receiving touchdown to start the scoring. Volunteer led 6-0 with 9:25 left in the first.

Chuckey-Doak punted on its first drive and Volunteer only needed one offensive snap to add to its lead.  Graves took a quick catch up field for a 70-yard touchdown. The Falcons led 13-0 halfway through the quarter.

The Black Knights went three-and-out on the next drive and punted to the Volunteer 48. They finished a nearly three minute drive with another touchdown as Lincoln Wilson marched in for six from 7 yards out. The swinging gate formation helped them score a successful two-point conversion and lead 21-0.

Both teams traded interceptions on back-to-back plays with Chuckey-Doak senior Dom Atchison claiming a takeaway in his last game in Lower Afton.

The offense stalled out and punted back to Volunteer. The Knights held them to a fourth-and-six scenario on the seven-yard line, but it was no problem for Volunteer. The Falcons picked up the first and the touchdown with Bryton Landry plowing into the end zone for six. The swinging gate flew open again and they took a 27-0 lead.

Volunteer didn’t need the ball on offense to score its next six. Owen Fleenor intercepted Kiptyn Ball’s pass and took it to the end zone for a 60-yard pick six. The Falcons led 36-0.

A bad snap on a handoff by Chuckey-Doak gifted Volunteer a short field and it made the most of it by letting Raymond Landry catch a curl route and carry the rock across the chalk for a 12-yard touchdown. The lead grew to 43-0.

Landry scored once more before the half by shedding two tackles behind the line of scrimmage and racing 54 yards into the end zone. Volunteer led 49-0 at halftime.

Raymond Landry scored from 55 yards out to open the second half and broke four tackles to get there. The Falcons led 56-0, but he wasn’t done yet. Landry scored on defense next with a 48-yard pick six to boost their lead to 63-0. He scored one last time towardsthe end of the third and made it 70-0 which would be the final.

The Black Knights enter their bye week and suit up in two weeks at Pigeon Forge in their most important game of the season with their postseason chances on the line. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.

“We’ve got a lot to improve on honestly. We’ve got a long way to go,” Kaylor stated.
