GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Tusculum University has released its 2025 football schedule for this coming fall.  Head coach Billy Taylor is going into his second season at the helm of the TU program.

The Pioneers will play an 11-game schedule which features 10 South Atlantic Conference contests. TU will play five home games to go along with six road outings. Tusculum will face five teams who recorded at least eight wins last year including three programs who advanced to the NCAA Division II Playoffs.

Tusculum will open its season on the road for a third straight year as the Pioneers take on Bluefield State in the inaugural meeting between the two schools. Bluefield State posted a 1-9 record while going winless in CIAA play.

The Pioneers will play its home opener on Sep. 6 when they host Lenoir-Rhyne. The Bears went 10-3 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Playoffs. LR leads the all-time series 17-11, which began in 1924.

TU will make its first-ever trip to the Electric City to take on Anderson on Sep. 13. The Trojans went 3-8 with one of those losses coming at Tusculum in the inaugural meeting between the two schools.

The Pioneers return home Sep. 20 to battle Emory & Henry. The Wasps outlasted TU in a 23-21 thriller last year as E&H blocked a field goal on the final play of the game. Emory & Henry posted its best season as a D-II member, finishing with a 9-2 record. E&H leads 16-4 in a series that started 110 years ago (1915).

Tusculum closes out the month with a Sep. 27 road trip to UVA Wise. The Pioneers and Highland Cavaliers meet for a 16th time as TU leads the series 8-7. UVA Wise is coming off a 4-6 campaign.

After an open date, Tusculum hosts Newberry on Oct. 11 in Greeneville. This will be the 26th meeting in a series where Newberry owns a 14-11 advantage including wins in the last four encounters. The Wolves went 3-7 last year.

On Oct. 18, Tusculum travels to Gaffney, South Carolina to face Limestone. The Saints went 8-3 last year and are two years removed from making a NCAA Playoff appearance. TU leads the series 6-2 as the two teams first met in 2015.

The Pioneers travel to Catawba on Oct. 25 for the 29th all-time meeting. The Catawba Indians lead the series 18-10 including a win over TU in last year’s season-finale at Salisbury.

Tusculum hosts cross-mountain rival Mars Hill on Nov. 1 for the Pioneers’ annual Homecoming game. It will be the 42nd meeting in the long-time series which started in 1922. TU leads the series 23-16-2 as MHU is coming off a 5-4 season which includes a home win over Tusculum. The last time TU and Mars Hill faced off at Pioneer Field was in 2023 as Tusculum came away with a 29-27 double-overtime win.

Tusculum hosts defending SAC Champion Wingate on Nov. 8 in Greeneville for Senior Day. Wingate went 9-2 overall and advanced to the opening round of the NCAA Playoffs. This will be the 27th meeting in the series which began in 1996 as the Bulldogs lead 17-9. The two teams did not play each other in 2024.

The Pioneers travel to arch-rival Carson-Newman on Nov. 15 in the regular-season finale. The Eagles won the SAC Mountain Division crown in 2024 to advance to the SAC title game. This will be the 54th meeting in the second-oldest collegiate football rivalry in the State of Tennessee. C-N leads the series 36-15-2, which began in 1904. The Eagles went 9-3 and earned a NCAA postseason berth in 2024.

The NCAA Playoffs begin Nov. 22 at campus sites culminating with the Division II national championship game on Dec. 20.
