22nd annual Bob Kesling Boys & Girls Club Celebrity Golf Classic
Bob Kesling, longtime lead broadcaster for Tennessee Volunteer sports may have retired from the announcer booth but he is still “Volunteering.” On Friday, he will host the 22nd Annual Bob Kesling Boys & Girls Club Celebrity Golf Classic at Link Hills Country Club. The event will be held to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Greeneville & Greene County. The 2025 tournament is title-sponsored by Greeneville Oil & Petroleum and QuickStop Markets. The event looks to have one of the marquee formats for this area as Bob Kesling has invited celebrities from around the region to compete with local teams of four in this year’s tournament.
Former college and pro athletes, as well as college coaches, will be among the celebrities that will be involved in this year’s event. Other participants include individuals that played collegiate & professional sports, broadcasters and other notables including coaches from The University of Tennessee, Tusculum University, and the surrounding region.
The event will start with an open range at 10:00 am, sponsored by Greene County Express, followed by lunch starting at 11:00 am, Sponsored by Pizza Inn, Captain D’s, and other local vendors. This will be followed by the introductions of the celebrities and then a round of golf for all participants that will have a shotgun start at noon. The ball shot contest will be held at hole #1 sponsored by American Greetings. The evening will be capped off with dinner at 5:00 pm sponsored by Cook’s Mechanical Services, followed by the awards reception sponsored by Austin Powder Company/US Nitrogen. Other major sponsors and food donors include Aubrey’s, Captain D’s Seafood Kitchen, Grand True Value Rental, Greeneville Federal Bank, Johnson City Toyota, Petro Services, Pizza Inn, Summers Taylor, and Tom & Carla Bewley.
The tournament participants will have a chance to win prizes for a hole-in-one including $15,000 cash for a hole in One on #6 sponsored by State Representative David Hawk and Shaw & Shuffler Excavating, as well as prizes for the longest drive and closest to the hole contests. Kesling stated, “It is a great honor to be involved in an organization such as the Boys & Girls Club.” He said that living in Knoxville he has seen what an impact Boys & Girls Club’s make on a community’s youth. “I hope that from our tournament we can provide some additional funding for this great organization for the youth of Greeneville & Greene County,” added Kesling. Allen Johnson, title sponsor of this year’s event of this year’s event stated, “We have been very fortunate to have such a caring community step up in a big way and help sponsor this year’s event for the youth of our community.” The tournament has helped raise funds for the local Boys & Girls Club’s programs and activities for several years. Since its inception, the tournament has raised almost $1.5 million to help the youth of Greeneville & Greene County.
The golf tournament field is sold out, but several UT athletes, including Jakobi Gillespie, will be participating and available for autographs.
