Greeneville’s tennis teams travelled to Johnson City Tuesday afternoon and faced off with University High. Both matches were very competitive and came down to the final volley with the Jr. Bucs claiming a 5-4 sweep.
The Lady Devils jumped out to a 2-1 advantage after doubles victories by Maggie Morelock and Kiley Scott (8-5) along with Abi Kate Moore and Briley Catron (8-1). The Jr. Bucs rebounded to take four of the six singles matches to claim the win. Jorja Ward came home with an 8-0 win, while Moore claimed an 8-5 victory for Greeneville.
On the boys’ side, the Devils trailed 2-1 after the doubles action. Dominic Tweed and his partner, Isaac McGill defeated their opponents 8-2 for the only Greene Devil win. The toughest setback was when Nick Thomas and Ace Patel came up on the short end of a 9-8 decision by virtue of a 7-5 tie-breaker.
The Devils looked to rebound in the singles matches, but the 3-3 split was not enough to put them over the top. Jackson Weems defeated his opponent 8-1, while Tweed (8-3) and McGill (8-2) both scored wins for Greeneville.
Game Ballers for the match were Dominic Tweed and Abi Kate Moore. Greeneville will host Dobyns Bennett Thursday afternoon at the Greene County Tennis Center, with matches beginning at 4:00.
