North Greene Tops Unaka in Softball Thriller

STONY CREEK, Tenn. — The North Greene Varsity Lady Huskies defeated the Unaka Rangers in a thrilling softball matchup on Tuesday evening, capturing a 9-4.

North Greene showcased their offensive prowess early, putting a run on the board in the top of the first inning. The Lady Huskies then exploded for three runs in the fifth and five more in the seventh, which broke a 4-4 tie. Despite a late surge by Unaka with three runs in the sixth inning to tie the game, North Greene’s solid pitching and defense was able to close the game in the seventh.

The standout of the game was North Greene’s pitcher, H. Brooks, who tossed a complete game, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits while striking out 7. Brooks also delivered with her bat, belting a home run and tallying 4 hits on the day.

H. Brooks’ power at the plate set the tone for North Greene’s offense, which saw contributions from multiple players. H. Harmon went 3-5 with 2 runs scored, M. Phillips went 2-for-4 with a key RBI, while H. Bailey and L. Blevins each notched important hits. The Lady Huskies’ hitting barrage was complemented by aggressive baserunning, with J. Faust swiping a base to keep the pressure on.

Unaka’s effort was led by K. Proffitt, who pitched three innings but struggled against North Greene’s lineup, surrendering 8 runs on 12 hits. Despite M. Salyer’s homer in the sixth inning and offensive contributions from several players, the Rangers fell short in their comeback bid.
