Afton, Tn – Wednesday afternoon in Lower Afton, Chuckey Doak’s Gavin Crum and West Greene’s Mason McCamey stepped onto the mound and lived by two philosophical points of view: “As a pitcher I let my arm do the talking” and “Pitching is all about playing catch and throwing strikes”. Both went the distance and gave their team a chance to win the game, but Chuckey-Doak earned their second win this week over their county rival and district foe, West Greene 3-2. It is the second one run game this week between the two teams.

The Buffaloes broke the ice in the top of the second when Maddox Garber, who led off with a single, came around to score on a Kaven Greene base hit.

The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth when Christian Derry and Crum reached on back-to-back, one-out singles. They both advanced on a ground out by Colyer Franklin and scored when Lynkin Cutshaw sent a sharp single to center, giving the Knights a 2-1 advantage.

Chuckey Doak picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Randall Sauceman, who reached on a walk, scored on a Jake Hinke sac fly, making the score 3-1.
West Greene made things interesting in the top of the sixth, when McCamey sent a no-doubter over the centerfield fence to cut the score to 3-2.

From that point on, both pitchers continued what they started and controlled the game. Crum picked up the win giving up 2 runs (1 earned), scattering 6 hits, and striking out 6. McCamey took the hard-luck loss allowing 3 runs (2 earned), scattering 4 hits (all singles), striking out 7, and walking 1.
Chuckey Doak (6-2) will travel to North Greene on Thursday, while West Greene (5-5) will hit the road to meet Grainger.
