West Greene senior, Ava Brown, signed with the Tusculum Cheerleading team on Friday.
Ava tells WGRV that she has cheered since she was in elementary school under several different coaches and would like to thank them for shaping her as a cheerleader and a person.
Stephanie Cox, teacher and cheerleading coach at West Greene High Schools, speaks about Ava’s growth as she has watched Ava become the cheerleader and the person she is today.
Ava says she is grateful for her mom and the role she has played in Ava’s Cheer leading career. She says her mom has coached ever since she was young, so she grew up in the cheerleading atmosphere where she developed her love for the sport.
Ava has attended several Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) camps and competitions. Ava’s Mom, Sharonda Brown, mentions Ava’s accomplishment of being an All American Cheerleader through UCA.
When speaking of how cheer leading has benefited Ava’s life, Ava says its made her more outspoken and welcoming to change. Coach Cox and Sharonda say cheer leading has developed Ava into an outgoing person, a teacher for others and a leader.
Ava says her interest in Tusculum initially sparked when the Tusculum Cheer leading team held clinics where she got to meet the other cheerleaders there at the University. Ava says the team members where welcoming and kind to her enticing her to continue her cheer career there
Ava says what she is most excited about is the friendships she’ll make there as a Pioneer Cheerleader and the new level of stunts she will be able to compete with when the Tusculum Cheer team travels to nationals. Ava expresses she is excited what this new challenge will bring her.
