The Greeneville Middle soccer team celebrated 8th Grade Night on Monday night and celebrated even more once it was all said and done after claiming a 7-2 win over David Crockett.
“It was definitely a good win. Trying to get closer and closer to the postseason. So, we’re trying to work on a few things before we get there. Got every single girl in the game. Had a lot of different people score and a lot of different people contribute to the goal scoring too so it’s always good to see that,” Greeneville Head Coach Rustin Jones stated.
The group of eighth graders spent one last special night playing a regular season game on the pitch at Greeneville Middle. The group were all honored as team captains and all got to play in Monday’s win.
“It always means something. 8th grade night is always special,” Jones mentioned.
It was a flurry of offense from Greeneville in the opening ten minutes. The Lady Devils scored goal after goal and built a comfortable 4-0 lead only eight minutes in.
The scoring started with Elsie Rogers burying a goal in the second minute and came back again with another goal in the fourth.
“Poor Elsie has been injured and she wanted to give it a go tonight and comes out and scores two goals,” Coach Jones said.
Andrehina Moreno scored the next goal with a shot to the left side past the keeper in the sixth minute. Tatum Hill had a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper and made the most of it with the next goal in the eighth.
Kamile De Valle was pushing towards the goal and was fouled in the 18-yard box and Greeneville was rewarded with a penalty kick. Morgan Cassidy buried it and lifted Greeneville ahead 5-0 in the 13th minute.
Crockett’s defense settled in and held the Lady Devils to only one goal for the rest of the first half and two for the rest of the game.
Ten minutes passed by before Greeneville’s Blakley Crum lifted the ball over the keeper in the 23rd minute to make it 6-0.
Greeneville led 6-0 at the break.
“Our defense played really, really well, especially early on. Just a stout defense not allowing too many shots,” Jones explained.
Harper Neas scored the seventh and final goal for the Lady Devils with a top shelf goal in the 37th minute.
Crockett’s Rio Mae Johnson scored in the 45th minute and Lucy Arredondo scored in the 59th minute for both of the Lady Pioneers goals.
Greeneville cruised to a 7-2 win for the final score.
