Strikes and Spares: Dobyns-Bennett Girls Cruise, Gatlinburg Pittman Boys Grind Out District Title

The District 1 Bowling Tournament concluded Tuesday afternoon at Interstate Bowl, with Dobyns-Bennett’s girls capturing the championship in dominant fashion over Greeneville, 25–2. On the boys’ side, Gatlinburg-Pittman defeated Dobyns-Bennett, 19–8, to claim the title.

Girls Championship

Top-seeded Dobyns-Bennett jumped out to a commanding 6–2 lead in the opening game and never looked back. Riley Grace Bridges and Mackenzie Place each rolled a 222, while Destiny Dishner added a 196 to set the early tone for the Lady Indians. For Greeneville, Addison Phillips led the way with a 177, followed by Jazmine Kesterson’s 153.

Dobyns-Bennett continued its strong performance in game two, with Place posting a 177 and Michaela Mahoney contributing a 171. The Lady Indians swept all individual points to extend their lead to 14–2. Greeneville was paced once again by Phillips (156) and Kesterson (147), with Carly McLeod adding a 145.

Dobyns-Bennett sealed the championship by winning both Baker games, 136–130 and 166–134, to complete the 25–2 victory.

Both teams advance to the Region 1 Tournament, scheduled for January 7 at Fountain Lanes in Knoxville. Dobyns-Bennett will face Gibbs, while Greeneville will take on Carter.

Boys Championship

Gatlinburg-Pittman jumped out to an early 6–2 lead after totaling a 1,078-pinfall compared to Dobyns-Bennett’s 1,022. Ethan Craig led the Highlanders with a 205, followed by Chandler Bales’ 191. For Dobyns-Bennett, Mossy Killen rolled a 193 and Ryan Barrett added a 186.

Dobyns-Bennett responded in game two, tying the match at 8–8 with a strong 1,054 set. Dylan Brooks led the charge with a 214, while Barrett (187) and Nate Rickert (186) also contributed. Gatlinburg-Pittman finished with a 969, paced by Braden Shirley’s 184 and another solid performance from Bales, who rolled a 172.

Gatlinburg-Pittman closed out the championship by posting back-to-back 208’s in the Baker games, while Dobyns-Bennett finished with scores of 151 and 176.

Girls Semifinals

Greeneville advanced to the finals with a 16–11 victory over Gatlinburg-Pittman, while Dobyns-Bennett cruised past Chuckey-Doak, 25–2.

Greeneville fell behind early, trailing 6–2 after the first game as Isabella Anderson set the tone for Gatlinburg-Pittman with a 210, followed by Kylie Weaver’s 151. Jazmine Kesterson led Greeneville with a 140.

The Lady Devils responded in game two to tie the match at 8–8 behind strong performances from Breana Brown (179) and Addison Phillips (157). Aubrie Caldwell paced the Lady Highlanders with a 159.

Greeneville sealed the match by winning both Baker games, 135–110 and 136–129.

Dobyns-Bennett claimed an early 7–1 lead over Chuckey-Doak, highlighted by Kylie Price’s 209. The Lady Indians extended their advantage to 14–2 in game two as Riley Grace Bridges rolled a 219. Hailey Williamson finished with games of 193 and 154, while Sara Shirey Wirt added a 171.

Boys Semifinals

The matchup between Dobyns-Bennett and Chuckey-Doak proved to be a classic battle, with the teams splitting individual points in the first two games. Dobyns-Bennett held a narrow 10–6 lead, edging the Knights by 52 pins, 2,129–2,077.

Mossy Killen led the Indians with a 205, while Aidan Place (198), Will Russell (192, 181), and Dylan Brooks (180) also contributed. Chuckey-Doak stayed within striking distance behind Eric White’s strong series of 227 and 191, Evan Stills’ 206 and 180, and a 199 from Hayden Williamson.

The teams split the Baker games, with Dobyns-Bennett winning the first 178–163 and Chuckey-Doak taking the second 182–148. The Tribe ultimately secured the 16–11 victory by a 33-pin margin.

In the other boys semifinal, Gatlinburg-Pittman opened with a 5–3 lead and extended it to 12–4 after the second game. Koby Bohanon rolled a 220, Wyatt Summers added a 192, and Braden Shirley posted a 190 to lead the Highlanders. Martin Moradel (201) and Eli Williams (182) paced the Tigers.

The teams split the Baker games, with Gatlinburg-Pittman cruising to a 220–122 win in the first and the Tigers responding with a narrow 133–131 victory in the final game.
