Kingsport 10 – Greeneville 7
Greeneville and Kingsport wrapped up their three-game series Sunday afternoon at Ballad Health Field, with the Axmen claiming a 10-7 victory to eliminate the Flyboys from playoff contention.
Kingsport wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
Greeneville answered in the top of the second when Gabe Gray ripped a double to left field, scoring Amari Jefferson and Bryson Boyd to even the score at 2-2. The Flyboys then took their first lead of the game as Matthew Kerrigan drove in a run with a groundout before Deacon Nelson reached on a fielder’s choice that brought home Gray, giving Greeneville a 4-2 advantage.
The Axmen responded immediately, tying the game with two runs in the bottom of the second before breaking it open with a five-run third inning to take a 9-4 lead.
The Flyboys attempted to rally, scoring once in the fourth and adding two more runs in the sixth. However, Kingsport answered with an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and held on for the 10-7 victory.
Owen ten Oever paced the Greeneville offense with a double and a single, while Gray added a two-run double.
Beau Revord suffered the loss after allowing nine runs on nine hits over 2⅓ innings. He walked four and struck out four.
Following an off-day Monday, Greeneville will close out the regular season with a three-game series against Johnson City. Games one and two will be played at Eastman Credit Union Field on the campus of Tusculum University, while the season finale will be held at TVA Credit Union Ballpark in Johnson City. First pitch for all three games is scheduled for 7 p.m.
