ELIZABETHTON – Chuckey-Doak bounced back after Monday’s loss to Sullivan Easy and carried out a 69-19 win over ACTS on Tuesday afternoon.
It’s always good to get a win and especially when eleven different players score. The Black Knights gained a major confidence boost with an easy win going into tomorrow’s final game at the Warrior Classic at Happy Valley. Chuckey-Doak will play either Jenkins, KY or Providence Academy at 12:30 PM on New Year’s Eve.
“It’s huge for these boys to get a win after losing the way we lost to Sullivan East. To come back and get a win is important. We know tomorrow is gonna be a lot tougher,” Black Knights Head Coach Sam Broyles stated.
Ryland Grindstaff scored a game-high 15 points. Gavin Crum scored 14 to join him in double figures.
Chuckey-Doak started red hot and led 17-2 after the first quarter and basically cruised home the rest of the way. The Black Knights pounded the glass and scored every point off the glass in the second quarter. They led 29-11 at the half.
Great defense and quick transition trips down the floor were huge towards Chuckey-Doak’s success. “We were able to turn them over and that led to transition and we were getting it in the paint,” Broyles said.
The Knights continued the trend of starting the half off hot. They outscored ACTS 32-2 in the third quarter. Ryland Grindstaff, Gavin Crum, and Blake Lippard helped spark a 12-0 run with four-straight three-point bombs. They continued pounding it inside with more points in the paint to extend their lead.
“I felt like the starters played a lot better in that third quarter and they extended that lead,” Coach Broyles said.
Chuckey-Doak had no issue cruising to the finish line and beat ACTS 69-19. Ryland Grindstaff led with 15 points.
