The Lady Black Knights have a new face in charge. Tanner Earley was named Chuckey-Doak’s new girls basketball coach on Friday morning.
The news comes after previous head coach Kyle Donahue stepped down from the position on May 23rd. Early became the ninth head coach in program history.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Earley to the Chuckey-Doak family,” said Athletic Director Dr. Kyle Donahue. “He brings energy and a commitment to developing young student-athletes both on and off the court. We believe he is the right person to continue the momentum built within our girls’ basketball program.”
He most recently coached at White Pine Elementary School for the past three years. Earley is a graduate of West Greene High School where he spent four seasons as a varsity athlete.
Coach Earley detailed his early thoughts and feelings on the new position by saying, “Kind of nervous to be honest with you. I know how big of a job this is. For me coming from an elementary/middle school up to a high school this is a bigger role for me in my life going forward. So there’s a lot of nerves and a lot of excitement.”
He takes over a successful Chuckey-Doak program that has been to three-straight Region 1-2A Tournaments and reached the District 1-2A Championship Game two out of the last three seasons. He detailed how much it means to him to build upon their recent success.
“The biggest goal for me is to continue the winning culture that Coach Donahue has provided with the program. He’s done an unbelievable job the three years he was here establishing a winning culture and winning program. That’s my biggest goal for this team is to continue that winning culture that he has created,” he described.
Chuckey-Doak finished last season as runner ups in the District 1-2A regular season and tournament. They finished with a record of 17-14 (7-3) and finished in the Region 1-2A semifinals.
