Greene County Lacrosse Players Getting Ready For First Season Of TSSAA Play

High school boys lacrosse will be coming to Greene County for the first time this spring.

South Greene High School initiated a sanctioned boys’ lacrosse team for the 2026 season that will co-op with Greeneville High School. The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) sanctioned lacrosse in Tennessee for boys and girls in 2024.

There will be a sign-up meeting for athletes on January 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Tusculum Indoor Practice Field. Austin Wallace, a Tusculum University (TU) graduate, TU Men’s lacrosse alumnus, and Hawkins County educator, will serve as the inaugural team’s head coach.

Team practice begins in February with the Greene County team competing against existing Tri-Cities teams and East Tennessee opponents.

The team will compete in Region 1-A with Pigeon Forge, Sevier County, Gibbs, and Knox West.

The nonprofit Greeneville Lacrosse Club (GLC) provided financial and in-kind support to the team’s launch. GLC promotes youth teams in Greene County and is celebrating this momentous event in local lacrosse play.

“GLC is thrilled that South Greene and Greeneville have joined forces to found this history-making first team,” said GLC Board Chair Gretchen Sherrill. “Greene County athletes will get greater recruitment scrutiny from area universities, and local youth gain a path forward to compete in lacrosse against area high schools.”

In addition to Tusculum University, Emory and Henry, Lincoln Memorial University, Mars Hill, Lees McRae, and the University of Tennessee host men’s and women’s lacrosse teams.

The season will begin on February 25 at Knox West.
