Greeneville football fans will have a reason to take in some MACtion in the fall after the University of Toledo announced on Thursday that former Greene Devil Adjatay Dabbs was transferring to the FBS program.
Dabbs is a 2023 graduate of Greeneville High who joins the Rockets as a redshirt sophomore. He has spent the last three seasons at Mercer University and helped the team reach the FCS playoffs the past two seasons while winning two SoCon championships. This season he was the Bears’ top receiver with 856 yards and eight touchdowns. He averaged 19 yards per catch and added a rushing touchdown as well.
Dabbs is following his coach at Mercer, Mike Jacobs, to Toledo. Jacobs was announced as the Rockets’ new coach in December. Toledo went 8-5 this year and was 6-2 in the MAC. The Rockets lost to Louisville 27-22 in the Boca Raton Bowl.
Former head coach Jason Candle left Toledo after 11 seasons to take over the program at Connecticut.
Dabbs was a standout three-sports athlete at Greeneville who played football, basketball at ran track. He was important part of Greeneville’s basketball state championship teams in 2021 and 2022. In football he helped the Devils to 10-0 records in the regular season as both a junior and senior. In his senior season at Greeneville he had 35 catches for 786 yards and nine touchdowns. In track he placed fourth in the state in Class AA in the 400 meters and seventh in the 200 meters as a senior.
