JOHNSON CITY – Prep golfers from around East Tennessee got their first chance to tee it up on Monday in the 1913 Invitational held at Johnson City Country Club.
Greeneville and Chuckey-Doak were among the 19 teams that competed in the preseason event.
Carson Waters led the Greene Devils’ 14-member contingent by shooting a 77 on Monday. That was good enough for 10th overall as an individual. Nathan Howlett shot a 78, Bryson Ricker shot a 79 for Greeneville and Brayden Shelton had an 83.
Greeneville’s Landon Alridge shot an 85, Wolfgang Raburn 86, Maddox Tucker 94, Jake Hall 97, Aiston Richards 98, Ryan Jobe 99, Andres Bowman 102, Carter Raby 102, Noah Jordan 112 and Dash Lawson 112.
Kaleb Blankenship led the Chuckey-Doak boys with a 97. Ty Shelton shot a 108 for the Black Knights, Dakine Thompson shot a 109, Knox McAmis 110 and Ben Palazzo 119.
For the Chuckey-Doak girls Kyleigh Crawford shot a 90, Harley Thompson a 109 and Addilyn Boesch 115.
Brycen Blake of Chattanooga Christian had the low score of the day with a two-under-par 70. His teammate Carson McHarge had a 71 to place second. The Chargers had three of the top four scores among the boys participants on Monday.
On the girls side Dobyns-Bennett’s Aliezah Robinson shot a one-under-par 71.
The 19-team field hosted by Happy Valley included teams from throughout Northeast Tennessee, but also included teams from the Knoxville area, Chattanooga and Murfreesboro.
The TSSAA golf season officially gets under way July 28.
