With the start of school just around the corner, youngsters from Greeneville and Greene County are winding down the tournaments from the Parks and Recreation. Finals for the Pee Wee and Minor Girls are set for Friday night while the Minor Boys will play Monday.

Minor Girls:
Preferred Delivery punched its ticket to the Minor Girls championship game with an 11-9 victory over Devoti Customs in a hard-fought semifinal matchup at Dearstone Field.

Preferred Delivery came out swinging, scoring five runs in the first inning and adding another in the second to build a 6-0 lead. Devoti Customs got on the board with a run in the bottom of the second to trim the deficit to 6-1.

Preferred Delivery answered with two runs in the third, and after each team scored once in the fourth, the lead grew to 9-2. Devoti Customs battled back with two runs in the fifth to make it 9-4, but Preferred Delivery responded with two more runs in the top of the sixth, taking an 11-4 advantage into the final half-inning.

Devoti Customs refused to go quietly, scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to 11-9. However, league rules limit teams to a maximum of five runs per inning, ending the comeback attempt and sending Preferred Delivery to the championship game.

Amelia Williams led Preferred Delivery’s offense with three singles, while Ava Littlejohn and Maddi Fillers each added a pair of singles.

For Devoti Customs, Catherine Fains collected a double and a single, while Ann Hawkins and Brielle Banks each finished with two singles.

Preferred Delivery, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, will take on regular-season champion Jerry’s Used Cars in the Minor Girls championship game Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Dearstone Field.
