The Greeneville Parks and Recreation Department crowned Pee Wee and Minor Girls tournament champions on Friday evening, while the final team in the Minor Boys’ division punched their ticket for a Monday night showdown.
Pee Wee:
GEA captured the Pee Wee Division Tournament championship Friday night at Lions Field with an 11-5 victory over Poor Boys Hauling and Dirt Works.
Poor Boys came out swinging, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead. GEA, the regular-season champions, answered immediately with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to move in front 5-3.
GEA kept Poor Boys off the scoreboard in the second before adding four more runs in the bottom of the inning to extend its lead to 9-3.
Poor Boys battled back with two runs in the top of the third to cut the deficit to 9-5, but GEA put the game away by adding one run in both the third and fourth innings to secure the championship.
Abel Lawson paced GEA’s offense with a triple, a double, and a single. Camden Kreeger added three singles, while Coen Carter contributed two singles.
Poor Boys was led by Carson Cole, who finished with a double and a single. Hudson Davis and Kayden Kelley each collected two singles in the runner-up effort.
Minor Girls:
Jerry’s Used Cars captured the Minor Girls Tournament championship Friday night, rallying from behind to edge Preferred Delivery 7-6 in a thrilling title game at Dearstone Field.
Jerry’s struck first with three runs in the top of the first inning, but Preferred Delivery, the regular-season runner-up, answered with four runs in the bottom half to take a 4-3 lead.
Jerry’s evened the score at 4-4 with a run in the second and held Preferred scoreless in the bottom of the inning.
Preferred Delivery regained the lead with two runs in the third to go in front 6-4, but the regular-season champion’s defense kept the deficit from growing any larger.
Jerry’s chipped away with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth to tie the game before scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth.
Preferred Delivery had one last chance in its final at-bat. After the leadoff hitter flew out, the next batter singled to bring the tying run aboard. However, Jerry’s turned a game-ending double play to secure the 7-6 victory and the tournament championship.
Nevaeh Baker led Jerry’s offense with two singles, while Kendall Collins and Emma Currance each added a hit.
Preferred Delivery was paced by Ava Littlejohn, who finished with a double and a single. Madi Fillers and Amelia Williams each contributed two singles in the runner-up effort.
Minor Boys:
Strange Marine Detailing and Fiberglass earned a spot in the Minor Boys Tournament championship game Friday evening with an 11-1 victory over Wilburn Excavating at Dearstone Field.
Strange Marine took control early, scoring two runs in the first inning. Wilburn Excavating, the regular-season runner-up, answered with a run in the top of the second to trim the lead to 2-1.
The tournament’s No. 3 seed responded with five runs in the bottom of the second to build a comfortable advantage before adding four more runs in the fifth to put the game away.
Jax Strange led the offensive attack with three singles, while Kage Campbell added a double and a single.
Joshua Talmage and Tobias Aiken each recorded a single for Wilburn Excavating.
With the win, Strange Marine advances to Monday’s championship game against the Greeneville Bombers, the regular-season champions. First pitch at Dearstone Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.
