Chuckey-Doak’s Lady Knights battled Cloudland closely for a half, but second-half turnovers proved costly in a 69–43 loss.
Both teams played an evenly matched opening quarter, with the Lady Highlanders holding a narrow 16–14 lead. Regan Blair and Savanah McCurry scored four points each for Cloudland, while Carlene and Cristen Bishop each posted four for the Lady Knights.
Chuckey-Doak opened the second quarter with a three-point play from Hayleigh Seidel to take a brief 17–16 lead. Cloudland quickly regained control and stretched the margin to 27–21 with 2:47 left in the half.
The Lady Knights kept fighting, trimming the deficit to 27–24 in the final seconds. However, Cloudland pushed the ball the length of the floor off the inbound and converted a layup to take a 29–24 advantage into halftime.
The momentum shifted sharply in the third quarter, as the visitors from Roan Mountain found another gear. They forced Chuckey-Doak into a wave of turnovers—27 for the game—and turned them into a decisive 23–4 run. Makinna Shell poured in 10 of her game-high 19 points in the period, while Chloe Henderson scored four for the Knights.
“After competing early, we just ran out of gas in the third,” said Lady Knights coach Tanner Early. “They are a good team, and it showed.”
Shell stayed hot in the fourth quarter, adding six more points as Cloudland edged the frame 17–15 to secure the win. Henderson, Seidel, Khloe Kirkpatrick, and Kori Hollifield each added three points for Chuckey-Doak.
The Lady Knights will look to regroup next week as they open conference play against West Greene and Happy Valley before wrapping up the week against University High.
