South Greene’s Lady Rebels took advantage of 17 hits and an explosive 7-run fifth inning to take down the Chuckey Doak Lady Knights 12-4 in softball action.
Things started fast and furious for the Lady Rebels in the top of the first. Katie Willett started the game off with a single to right and advanced to second on a bunt single by Kourtnei Bailey. Haven Carter followed suit with a single to left, scoring Willett and giving South Greene a 1-0 lead. Bailey would come in to score on a productive ground-out, Whitney Reaves would single to center driving in Carter, and the Lady Rebels were in business.
Both teams would continue to get runners on base, but timely defensive performances and consistent pitching performances by Kaylee Whitson and Faith Yoakley, the score would stay 3-0 until the fifth.
It was then that South Greene would take advantage of 7 hits, including two doubles from Carter, and a couple of Chuckey Doak miscues to score 7 runs and break open the game, leading 10-0.
The Lady Knights would stave off ending the game early as they would get on the board in the bottom of the fifth scoring 3 runs on 2 hits, making the score 10-3.
Both teams would tack on runs in the sixth solidifying the final score. South Greene’s top hitters were Willett (4 singles), Carter (2 doubles and a single) and Reaves (3 singles). Chuckey Doak was paced by Haleigh Fisher (2 singles and a double) and Faith Yokley (3 singles).
