MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — Morgan Makovec of Tusculum University men’s volleyball earned Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (IVA) Offensive Player of the Week honors for the fourth time in his career and fifth overall weekly laurel from the IVA. This is his second-straight honor as well.
Makovec (Virginia Beach, Va.) had another record week for the Pioneers, aided by zero attack errors. The junior middle blocker began with two kills on a .500 hitting percentage and four block assists in his lone set against Kentucky State. In the neutral match against Randolph, Makovec upped his career high with 17 kills on a .654 clip with an assist, two digs, and four total rejection. He followed up with a perfect 11-for-11 outing versus Randolph-Macon, the 20th-ranked team in Division III, which set the program record for highest hitting percentage in a match. Makovec added one dig and three block assists against the Yellow Jackets. On the week, Makovec averaged 3.33 kills on a .732 clip, .11 assists, .33 digs, 1.22 blocks, and 4.00 points per set.
For the season, Makovec is averaging 2.36 kills on a .511 hitting percentage, .29 service aces, .38 digs, 1.018 blocks, and 3.2 points across 56 sets.
Nationally, Makovec is third in hitting percentage and 17th in blocks per set.
As a team, the Pioneers lead the nation in blocks per set (2.810), second in opponent hitting percentage (.169), 15th in win-loss percentage (.647), and 25th in hitting percentage (.268).
Tusculum (11-6, 0-2 IVA) hosts both Catawba and Charleston this weekend (Mar. 20-21) for 6 p.m. matches.
