McCORMICK, S.C. — The Tusculum men’s golf team climbed four spots up the leaderboard and finished ninth at the 2026 Savannah Lakes Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament was held at the par-72, 7,032-yard Monticello Golf Club.
The Pioneers carded a final round 287 to post a three-round aggregate score of 868 in the 18-team tournament field. Tusculum’s 868 total is the sixth-lowest 54-hole team score in school history.
TU newcomer Max Winnersjo was the low Pioneer of the day as he posted a four-under par 68 for his final round. He was two-over par after three holes, but bounced back with seven birdies, seven pars and a bogey as he improved 18 positions to finish in sole possession of 24th place at 75-70-68=213. His 213 is tied for the 15th-lowest 54-hole total in program history.
Sophomore Ed Linley was next with his three-round total of 72-73-75=220 as he tied for 52nd place. Buster O’Callaghan and Harrison Price tied for 58th place with a five-over par total of 221 as the TU duo each shot 74 on Tuesday.
Senior Dylan Side rounded out the scoring with his 225 including a one-under par 71 for his final round. Side had a clean scorecard which included 15 pars, two birdies and one bogey as he improved 14 spots from yesterday.
USC Aiken led wire-to-wire the claim the team title as the Pacers finished 34-under par with 830 including a final round 283. Wingate and North Georgia tied for runner-up honors with 847. Georgia College finished fourth with 848, followed by Erskine (850), host Lander (857), Carson-Newman (861), North Greenville (865), Tusculum (868) and Newberry (868) to round out the top-10.
Anderson was 11th with 870, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne (872), Emmanuel (874), Young Harris (877), Mississippi Christian (878), King (880), Chowan (890) and Ferrum (908).
Newberry’s Daymian Rij posted the low round of the day with a 66 (-6) to claim medalist honors with a 10-under par total of 206. Rij finished two strokes ahead of runner-ups Finn Ellis (Wingate), Jan Sustek (USC Aiken), Sam Allister (Erskine) and Cathal Penney (Lander) as quartet finished with 208.
The Pioneers return to action in two weeks (Sep. 28-29) when they travel to Bristol for the King Invitational.
